Yoga for Proper Core Function In-Person Workshop Sunday, Sept. 15th, 1-3:30pm
If you’ve been to my classes, you know that I'm passionate about proper core function! Many people think of the core as the front or tummy muscles. They might think of 6-packs or flat stomach. But our core is much more than this! A healthy core is a functional core, regardless of what shape our body is!
We’ll take an in-depth look with topics such as anatomy & function, how posture & breathing affect the core, how to properly engage the core and what happens if we don’t, are crunches really a good idea, and “belly love”.
Topics include:
Brief history of the “belly”
Anatomy of the core (it’s way more than you think!)
Functions of the core including proper breathing and pelvic floor
How posture and breathing affect proper core function
How to properly engage and strengthen the core & what happens if we don't
Crunches: Should we do them? Maybe. But there are other fun & safer ways to strengthen the core
How laughing is one of the BEST core exercises!
Putting it all into practice
Students can bring writing material, and prepare for practice with comfortable clothes, yoga mat and water.
Location: PranaShanti Yoga Centre, 950 Gladstone Ave., Ottawa, ON. Cost: $95.00 per person Register; 613-761-9642 Online: https://tinyurl.com/ykc5cb7j
Notes: This workshop is particularly beneficial for instructors or professionals working with clients in this area. You will gain important knowledge to help serve your clients best, such as proper breathing, cuing at the right time, and signs that they may be doing too much. “The journey of healing can be frustrating with a lot of misinformation along the way (thanks Dr.Google). Anything we read or watch on videos cannot possibly address our own unique bodies. My goal is for people to understand that their core is a complex system, to help them discover their own core needs and empower them with knowledge and tools for their own journey of greater well-being”.

Yoga for Pain Care Sunday, Nov. 17, 1-3:30pm
Almost everyone has experienced pain and likely will again. How did it make you feel to read that statement? Did it bring up fear? Did you tense up or feel yourself recoil? Well that’s part of the science of pain!
“Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.” (Buddha)
This course is for anyone interested in learning about pain, whether for themselves or those working with others. My goal is for people to understand pain and its complexities, and to empower them with the knowledge and tools to manage their own pain, find peace and greater well-being.
With the right knowledge, you can better understand and work with pain to be able to discern “how much pain is okay in this situation, can I change it, or should I avoid it…”
For the student – to help guide you to take control of your own life rather than letting pain control you For the instructor – to help you feel confident working with people in pain (rather than saying “skip it or take child’s pose”)
Key Topics: - The science of pain (in a nutshell!) - Acute vs chronic pain - Factors that contribute to how pain is experienced - 3 keys to pain management - How Yoga can help
